Sticky-Note Love in a Clapboard House

Yesterday we visited some old friends, a couple who have been together for some thirty years. They live in a spacious and airy first-floor apartment in a hundred-fifty-year-old clapboard three-story house in a seaside New England town. Giant windows. Big, red Oriental rugs. Lacy curtains that let in the smell of the ocean. Sturdy oak furniture that will outlive us all. Old photos of very nice people. Crowds of Christmas cactus and ficus with their backs pressed up against the windows, holding still so grandma cat won't notice them. And little sticky notes with "I Love You" written in all caps, stuck on the inside of one of the kitchen cabinet doors. 

Zzzzzzzzttttt. The record player needle screeches. 

Stop. 

Wait a minute.

Has anyone written "I Love You" in all caps on a sticky note and posted it on the inside of one of the kitchen cabinet doors in your spacious and airy first-floor apartment in a hundred-fifty-year-old clapboard three-story house in a seaside New England town? Do you see those words every morning when you reach in for a mug? When you then look for the milk for your coffee, do you see these other words written in all caps on a sticky note on the fridge door?

    LAUGHTER 

    CREATIVITY

No? Well, I have a cup full of pens and a whole pad of sticky notes in my desk drawer. I'd be happy to share. I suspect we should get to work on this immediately.
